Industry experience

Quentin brings over 18 years’ international experience in investment banking, combining both organisational change and strategic management achievements. After a decade of global leadership roles, in 2002 he founded a consultancy in New York to support senior managers of financial institutions in improving performance in their investment research and asset management businesses. Global tier-one clients included Deutsche Bank, JPMorgan and UBS. He also worked with CEOs of SMEs in the pharmaceuticals, technology and household industries to create product, marketing and people engagement strategies. In collaboration with US industrial psychologists, Quentin developed tools to evaluate in diverse individuals the leadership characteristics that underlie superior performance.

As Managing Director, Global Head of Strategy Implementation for the US$1bn investment research business at Merrill Lynch, Quentin created a strategic vision and implementation plan for next-generation equities, fixed income and macro research services. He headed a multi-discipline team to lead change-the-bank activities of 1,500 research, operations, compliance and IT executives, rejuvenating a US$30m programme stagnant for three years and delivering client service improvements that strengthened the firm’s #1 franchise.

With P&L responsibility of over US$100m, Quentin, as Executive Director, Global COO of Research at UBS, formed and led a 120-strong team of product managers, operations executives and compliance officers. He introduced a streamlined, round-the-clock operation to support over 800 research analysts. His team designed the financial content site that won the 2001 Extel survey award #1 Brokerage Firm Web Site; and launched the industry’s first mobile research product through its R&D laboratory founded to pioneer new technologies. Quentin sat on the steering committees of the RIXML and iRML industry forums.

Based at Jardine Fleming in Hong Kong, Quentin led the organisation’s first cross-business, client-facing project on behalf of the four brands in the Flemings group. This investment research service was commended by clients for its quality, timeliness and support; innovative staffing and technology models kept operating costs below 50% of those of competitors. He also orchestrated a turn-around project to introduce a global client relationship management solution for the Asian securities business, providing sales support in 18 offices and within 3 months reducing research distribution costs by over 40%. Quentin spearheaded the industry consortium BIG Asia; and led the team that built the equities forecast service ranked #1 by institutional fund managers.

At HSBC Asset Management, Quentin introduced technology systems and business processes to replace the paper-based unit trust administration in Hong Kong, servicing over 240 bank branches and reducing operating and third-party costs by over 30%. He also upgraded HSBC’s investment management platform in Europe, thereby enhancing client reporting and improving internal efficiency by 25%.
